Equatorial Guinea signed the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (The Maputo Protocol) on the 30th of January 2005 and ratified it on the 27th of October, 2009. Despite the government effort to ensure equal opportunity for women, customs and traditions remains an obstacle to women’s enjoyment of their human rights.
