Eastern Africa Sub-regional Support Initiative (EASSI)

EASSI was formed in 1996 as a mechanism that would facilitate networking within the Eastern African Region (Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somali, Tanzania, and Uganda) to build on the gains made following the Beijing 4th World Conference on Women. EASSI prioritizes on the 12 priority areas identified in the Beijing and the African Platforms for Action. The founding principle of EASSI was to stimulate activism at national, regional and international levels and to make concrete and meaningful change for women of the sub-region.

EASSI envisions a transforming society where women and men realise their full potential through the enhancement of gender equality, advancement of women, and social justice with Eastern Africa and beyond.

EASSI is a civil society organisation tasked with facilitating follow up of the implementation of the Global and African Platforms for Action for the advancement of women within the Eastern Africa sub-region. Its mission is to enhance gender equality and social justice through networking, research, capacity building and advocacy for women.
